Sports Physicals

Participating in sports is a great way for children and teens to stay active, but before hitting the field or court, a sports physical is often required. At Get Well Urgent Care, we offer comprehensive sports physicals to ensure athletes are in peak condition and ready to safely participate in their sport. Our experienced medical team provides thorough evaluations to identify any potential health concerns that could affect athletic performance or safety.

What is a Sports Physical?

A sports physical, also known as a pre-participation physical evaluation (PPE), is a medical examination required by schools or sports organizations to determine whether an athlete is healthy enough to participate in sports. The physical helps assess fitness levels, check for pre-existing injuries, and identify any medical conditions that could increase the risk of injury during physical activities.

Who Needs a Sports Physical?

Most schools, recreational leagues, and sports teams require athletes to undergo a sports physical before they can join a team or participate in a season. Sports physicals are typically required for:

  • student-athletes in elementary school, middle school, high school, and college (Note: Our K-12 sports physicals are only $20. College physicals are charged at our normal rate. Please call us for pricing details.)
  • individuals participating in organized recreational or competitive leagues
  • anyone engaging in high-intensity sports that involve physical exertion

What Does a Sports Physical Involve?

During a sports physical at Get Well Urgent Care, our providers will conduct a thorough evaluation that includes:

  • a review of your medical history, including past injuries, illnesses, and current medications
  • a physical examination that assesses your height, weight, blood pressure, and heart rate
  • an evaluation of your musculoskeletal system, including strength, flexibility, and joint stability
  • a check for any potential health concerns that may impact your ability to safely play sports, such as asthma or heart conditions

If any issues are identified during the examination, we will discuss follow-up care or recommendations for further evaluation to ensure that you can participate safely.
