What is a PPD Skin Test?

A PPD (purified protein derivative) skin test, commonly known as a TB test, is used to determine if someone has been infected with the bacteria that cause tuberculosis (TB). This test involves a small injection under the skin, and the results are checked within 48-72 hours to see if there’s a reaction.

Who Should Get Tested for TB?

TB testing is recommended for individuals who may have been exposed to tuberculosis, including healthcare workers, people in close contact with someone with TB, and individuals who have recently traveled to areas where TB is more common.
